  TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING

COURSE DURATION:  
Light Rigid 8 hours
Medium Rigid 8 to 10 hours
Heavy Rigid 10 to 12 hours
Heavy Combination 10 to 16 hours
Multi Combination 8 hours

 These courses are designed to give trainees a wide range of knowledge and skills that will enable them to work autonomously as professional drivers in the civil construction, building, mining and transport fields.

The training provides a foundation of knowledge, safety awareness, engine management and driving techniques for safe operation of the vehicle.

On completion of training, Heavy vehicle drivers will have the knowledge and skill to work safely and efficiently in the transport and construction industry.

LR

Any motor vehicle with a GVM of more than 4.5 tonne but no more than 8. Any tow trailer must now weigh more than 9 tonne GVM and also includes vehicles  with a GVM up to 4.5 tonne which carries more than 12 adults

Class C (car)

Hold a drivers licence (not a learners licence) for 1 year

MR

Any rigid vehicle with 2 axles and a GVM of more than 8 tonne. Any tow trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonne GVM

Class C (car)

Hold a drivers licence (not a learners licence) for 1 year.

HR

Any heavy rigid vehicle with three or more axles and a GVM of more than 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonne GVM also includes articulated buses.

Class C (car)

Class LR

Class MR

Hold a drivers licence (not a learners licence) for 2 years.

HC

Any semi-trailer or rigid vehicle towing a trailer with a GVM of more than 9 tonne.

Class MR

Class HR

Hold a Class MR or HR for 1 year.

MC

A multi-combination (MC) licence is required to drive any B-double or road train.

Class HR

Class HC

 

You must have held a heavy rigid (HR) or heavy combination (HC) licence for a period totaling at least one year.

 NOTE:

Prior to the program commencing trainees must complete a knowledge test at the RTA and request a Learners Log Book. During the training the logbook will be filled in and when complete the trainee will take it to the RTA and exchange for a licence.
